SpectatorHi Les,
That one is definitely on the list; many other people have requested it as well. Thanks for adding another vote! If you get some time, would you mind drawing a cabinet with the notched toe kick so we can see how you construct yours and how you add the kick piece at the front of the notch?
Thanks,

SpectatorHi Les,
Gotcha; we’re going to try and get a video together for you. Not sure about the fuzziness; I’ll take a look and see if there’s anything we can do to up the resolution…
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorHi Les,
We don’t have one yet. Are you interested in frameless corner cabinets? We should be able to whip up a video pretty quick for you. Let me know…
Thanks,

SpectatorHello,
Unfortunately, we don’t have that capability built in at the moment, since it’s a relatively rare operation, but since all of the cabinets drawn by CabWriter are regular SketchUp components, you can use standard SketchUp tools to modify the stile and panel in question. I do this once in awhile myself when there’s something a bit out of the ordinary. You can use the Push/Pull tool to make the stiles longer, then use the move tool to move the bottom rail down, and finally pull the panel down to fit. If you want to make sure that CabWriter doesn’t interfere with your changes if you edit the cabinet, you can open the Extended Entity Info window, select the components you modified or moved, and check the “CabWriter Protected” box at the bottom. Then, whenever you edit the cabinet, CabWriter will not overwrite your changes.
Glad you’re getting some time on the software, let us know if you have other questions or need more help with this problem.
Thanks,

SpectatorHi Marcus,
Much of what you want to do can already be done automatically within CabWriter by careful setup of the drilling settings. There is a short tutorial under the Education tab that walks you through how to access the settings. You can play with the drilling settings until you get what you want. If there are only a couple of things you need to add that we don’t provide, we would like to hear about it so we can consider if we need to add it at some point. However, since the cabinet ends that CabWriter draws are just standard SketchUp components, you can just edit them the way you want, then you can check the “CabWriter Protected” box so that CabWriter doesn’t erase the new stuff if you edit the cabinet. Once you play with the software and are able to create a cabinet that is the way you like, we would love to get that model from you so we can see what you’ve done and what we would need to add, if anything, to the CabWriter software.
Please let us know how you make out after giving it a try.
Thanks,

SpectatorHi Bruce,
Gotcha. If you think it’s something anyone can benefit from, please put it in the forums. If it’s something else, you can feel free to email me…
Thanks,

SpectatorHi Bruce,
I gotcha now; that’s an interesting idea. However, I don’t think we need to do anything special within CabWriter for you to do that. You can already import files and images into SketchUp and manipulate them. If you go to the SketchUp File menu and select Import, you can choose from a wide variety of files including PDF, jpg, and .png amongst others. You could pull in your information and have it right there in your model for reference if you wanted. I tried it this morning. Let me know if this is what you were thinking.
Thanks,

SpectatorHi,
I’m not sure I completely understand what you’re proposing. Would you be able to elaborate a bit more?
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorThanks for the feedback, we’re excited to hear you’re enjoying the program. Your request is a very popular one and it’s definitely on the list. In fact, the plan is to make it very flexible by also allowing you the option to provide a cross section of your door components so that CabWriter can draw them using that profile. This should make presentation a lot more true to life.
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorHi Johan,
I’m sorry you’re still having issues. You’re not the only Mac user who is experiencing this and we’re actively working to solve the problem or at least have a solid workaround. It appears to be a problem with the SketchUp environment when it is upgraded, something is left behind when the upgrade occurs. We will let you know when we have a solution.
We found a temporary solution this past week if you want to try it so you can at least continue to play around with the software. If you create a new user on your Mac and install a fresh copy of SketchUp in that new user’s space, it should work fine. Let me know if you need help doing that.
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorSorry, Keith! I should be more careful reading the posts. I went to the video, but I must not have a plugin that reads the that video format, because it won’t let me play the video. Do you know what format the file is?
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorHi Keith,
I’ve been using CabWriter on the Mac for the last few years, and there’s definitely a couple of issues related to multiple open windows, but I’ve primarily only seen it in terms of trying to create a new project. It doesn’t create a new project for CabWriter if there’s another CabWriter model open. I’m curious what you mean about jumping around to different windows; I don’t recall seeing anything like that. I’m wondering if you’re running into the other issue we’ve seen with the Mac which is when you update Sketchup to a newer version, it can leave files behind which cause problems. Are you having any issue with the story stick or setting parameters?
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorHi Johan,
Have you upgraded your SketchUp in the past? Other Mac users have seen similar issues to what you’re seeing when they’ve upgraded SketchUp versions. Apparently, SketchUp has an issue on the Mac during install where it doesn’t clean up or delete all the old files which causes a conflict that affects the CabWriter plugin. One of the other beta testers found a fix for it. See this forum thread:
After cleaning everything up, you can go ahead and re-install the version of SketchUp you want to use. Can you give it a try and see if it fixes the issue? Also, you want to make sure you’re using the latest CabWriter release from May 23rd.
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorHi Kevin,
Can you further describe what you mean by building in banks and describe what you mean by a bulkhead? Do you mean one long cabinet with partitions rather than individual boxes bolted together? If at all possible, could you mock up a cabinet in SketchUp and attach a screenshot of the guts of it so we can see what you mean?
Thanks,
Gregcabwriter
SpectatorJoe thinks he may have found the issue, but he won’t know until he gets back home tomorrow. He’ll get back to you with more information when he investigates.
Thanks for your patience!
Greg
