Hmmmm, help Greg. The file size is 668 KB. Is that really too large?

    Hi Les,
Sorry for getting back to you so late, but for some reason I wasn’t notified of this post. I’ll look into it.

In SketchUp 2017 the System Preferences box was renamed to SketchUp Preferences and Extensions was removed from it and placed under Window and called Extension Manager.

To install the .rbz files (CabWriter and CutList Bridge DXF) you have downloaded follow these instructions for each .rbz:

Download the .rbz file to a folder where you can easily find it i.e. a folder you know the location of. (Your Downloads folder for example.)
    1. We recommend logging into your computer as an admin before installing any Ruby scripts. This will make the installation go more smoothly and ensure that files get installed in the proper places.
    2. Select Window > Extension Manager. The Extension Manager dialog box is displayed.
    3. Click on the Install red Extension button at the lower left. The Open dialog box is displayed.
    4. Locate the Ruby zip file to install (.rbz) and highlight it using the cursor.
    5. Click on the Open button.
    6. The Extension Manager list will change to include extension you installed (you may have to scroll to see it) and should be Enabled on the right.

I hope this clears things up.

    Hi Rooster,

I don’t know if Greg replied to you on this but if you give me a little more detail perhaps I can help. When you say 24×24 upper are you talking about depth? Give me some more detail on the shape. Thanks,

OK, I added a Divided Upper and it can have drawers; it’s the only upper that can. I added this capability so that a Hoosier, which is an upper that starts at counter top height, can have drawers near the bottom. However, drawers can be added anywhere along the Divided Upper’s height. Pretty cool!

I still have some cleanup to do. Don’t think I will get this out until next week.

    Hi Les,

You convinced me with your first post. I have coded the Divided Upper and am debugging it now. I hope to have it out in the next week or so.

    Hi Les(?),

The “assortment of openings” that sit on the base, is that cabinet more shallow than the base? Does it need drawers as well as doors? As it stands now you can draw an upper cabinet on the base and specify no doors and no holes of any kind. Then use the Insert a Door and Insert a Drawer tools. But you would need to add mid rails, mid_stretchers and fixed shelves manually.

You question has me thinking. If we had a divided upper cabinet people could design cabinets that looked like old style Hoosiers.

I am going to look at adding that capability. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi David,
I haven’t completely tested CutList Bridge 4 or DXF with SketchUp 2017. But rest assured that I will and if it needs updating I will do so. I should have this done by the end of the week. So you might want to check back next week.

    Hi CDN,

Nice job on the sample cabinet. Greg stole my thunder. For now it is easier to draw an upper cabinet on the base cabinet and then do the edits necessary to stitch them together. As Greg said, soon there will be a tall cabinet you can use and tools that will allow you to place doors and draws where you want them. Hopefully it will be available in a beta release in two or three weeks.

    Hi Keith,

I sent you an invite to a Dropbox folder to put your .skp and video files in. Let me know when you have done so via email: [email protected] .

    Hi Keith,

How large is your .skp file. If it is not too large you might email it to me. Else we could set up a Dropbox for you to put it in.

By the way, I like to create a number of styles in my SketchUp models and give them descriptive names. For example:
Perspective – for scenes I want rendered in perspective view and textured.
Normal (or Woodworking) – for scenes rendered in isometric and do not have sections.
Sections (or Plan View) – for scenes with sections

Elevation views might be sectioned or not so you might want two more to cover those cases.

I didn’t mention it in the last reply, but whenever you make a change(s) to a style don’t forget to click the “Update Style with changes” button in the Edit tab. See attached image.

    Hi Keith,

In the short term use the method Greg has described above. As Greg mentioned I am working on some additional tools that will allow you to start with a tall Standard Base cabinet with no drawers or doors. The, with a few new tools such as Insert Drawer and Insert Door you can place doors, drawers, dividers, shelves, rails and stiles anywhere you wish. The full suite of tools will take a while, but the doors and drawers will be available in the next release, about two weeks away.
