SpectatorJeremy,
What parameter specifically were you trying to change that the Update button didn’t save?

SpectatorHi Jeremy,
I am not sure what look you are trying to get. Do you have and image you can share?

SpectatorCould you please send me your .skp file so that I can look at what you are modeling? You may have to ZIP it if it is over 10MB. You can send it to [email protected]. Also, please provide your first name. Thank you.

SpectatorHi Mark,
Open the CabWriter Settings to the Project tab. In the lower right you can tell CabWriter where you want to save your defaults. Also, you can open the User’s Guide with the menu Extensions > CabWriter > Open User’s Guide. Appendix A contains a description of every default sorted by tab. On page 191 you will see the User Defaults Files section of the Project tab.

SpectatorHi Jeremy,
We haven’t set the upgrade price yet for 3.0, but I don’t expect it to be too onerous. We are going to Las Vegas for the AWFS show in July 2019 (July 17-20). Everything will key off that show. We want to have 3.0 announced and released just before the show, so I expect we will announce around July 1st. However, we will probably begin beta testing in February.

SpectatorHi Wayne,
The advantage of CabWriter being an extension to SketchUp is that you can use the native tools of SketchUp to edit CabWriter cabinets (provided you follow some simple rules). See the attached model, which is like yours except the dimensions may be wrong. Look only at the Base Ladder layer and notice that I deleted one part and edited two others.

SpectatorHi Wayne,
This is not a bug. The error message is telling you that you did not supply a cabinet prefix to tell CabWriter which cabinet to assign this new part to. Once you supply a cabinet prefix, component type and box number CabWriter will create a prefix for your custom part and append a space between the prefix and your component name. For details Read Make CabWriter Component on page 59 of the User’s Guide. To access the User’s Guide use menu Extensions > CabWriter > Open User’s Guide.

SpectatorHi Jeremy,
The first option you have already. When you decide on a set of parameters for your particular cabinet design and build style, save you defaults to a file, with a name you recognize. Be sure that the Base Cabinets tab, section Base General, has Carcass Gap (Back to Wall): set to 0″ and Upper Cabinets tab, section Upper General, has Carcass Gap (Back to Wall): set to 1/4″. You may also want to change the Carcass Gap (Back to Wall): parameter for Refrigerator Upper and Diagonal Corner Upper as well.
Your second request is coming in CabWriter 3.0. You may have to wait until next summer to use it, unless you want to be a beta tester for 3.0, in which case it may be available around February.

SpectatorHi Jeremy,
Thanks for the report. You uncovered a bug. The bottom rail for upper doors was tied to the top rail for upper doors default. I fixed it as you can see in the attached. The disabling of the alignment slots does work as you can also see. Not sure what you may have been trying.
It appears that all four cabinets in your model have different construction methods, so I am assuming you are playing with default changes. I like that. It helps me to fix bugs. But some of the arrangements you have chosen I wouldn’t recommend using as a construction method in real life. For instance, you have selected to drawer the hinge plate holes in all four cabinets, but you have the sides set back. Those holes are likely useless as you will need to build out for hinges. But, I assume you don’t care, since you are just experimenting. Thanks again.

SpectatorHi Jeremy,
I don’t understand the question you are asking. But if it is about where user defaults are stored, please read the section titled User Default Files on page 191 of the User’s Guide. If you still have a question please provide some more details.

SpectatorHi Jeremy,
Yes, use the Save CabWriter Defaults tool icon or the File > CabWriter > Save CabWriter Defaults menu command.

October 31, 2018 at 12:20 pm in reply to: "add drawer" to divided upper: edit story stick doesn't change cabinet assembly #17373chiefwoodworker
SpectatorHi Adam,
Yes, in CabWriter 3 we are going to draw the doors and drawers at the same time the cabinet is drawn, just like any other cabinet. That way they will be redrawn with the cabinet, and you won’t run into this problem. Along with this change we will probably get rid of the insert a door and insert a drawer tools altogether.
