SpectatorHi Dax,
Yes, the drawer fronts on C5L are the problem. In addition to being named incorrectly they are missing some CabWriter stored information. If you want you can re-draw that cabinet, but you can probably work with the files I sent you yesterday. If you have other quextions you can contact me at [email protected] .

SpectatorHi Dax,
I am still working on your problem. Something is corrupted in one of your drawer fronts, but I haven’t discovered which one yet. But I have been able to create a cut list, optimized layouts and labels. See the contents of the attached ZIP file.

SpectatorHi Michael,
First off, let me just say your cabinet designs shown in the photos are beautiful. I am very impressed.
The definitions for Door/Drawer Front Top Clearance and Door/Drawer Front Bottom Clearance parameters can be found in the User’s Guide on pages 320 & 326 for Base and Upper Cabinets respectively. They only apply when there is no Top or Bottom rails.
When CabWriter first came out it did not support overlay door/drawer front designs. Hence, the Base Drawer Front Heights matrix on the Face Frame tab is inset drawer front centric where the drawer opening minus 2 x gap is the drawer front height. When we added overlay support we made the drawer front width the opening width + 2 x overlay distance and the drawer front height the opening height + 2 x overlay. You can map this back to the Base Drawer Front Heights matrix with your equation, though I don’t know why you included the 1/2″ desired reveal. That comes into play when you calculate the top, bottom or mid rails.
I suppose in CabWriter 6 we could provide separate parameters for the sides overlay and the top/bottom overlay. In the mean time you could either use 3/4″ to 3/8″ overlays, or manually change the vertical overlays with native SketchUp tools. That’s the best I can offer now.
Greg, can you add any comments?
BTW Michael, if you want to carry this discussion further you can call me on my mobile: 413-961-9115.

SpectatorHi Michael,
You are correct. In CabWriter the overlay distance is applied to both vertical and horizontal dimensions. This means that the mid-rail must be 2 X the overlay dimension plus the desired gap between door and drawer fronts. This works quite well for standard overlay dimensions. But 1 1/4″ overlay seems unusually large to me. Why are you using such a large overlay?

SpectatorHi Dax,
Could you please zip up your .skp file and send it to me? I will take a look at it and tell you what the problem is.
BTW, what edition (Home, Pro or CNC) of CabWriter do you have and what is the Version number?

SpectatorHi Dax,
Is the attached the error message you are talking about? If so, it is not an error message. It is a warning message. You can simply press OK and then proceed. I will change the message to better explain the warning.

SpectatorHi Michael,
Go to https://extensions.sketchup.com/user/extensions and install Layers Manager 3.0.0 if you don’t already have it installed (it’s free). Then use the Layers Manager Create Scene tool.

SpectatorHi Michael,
Can you be more specific? How are you creating the scene? Are you using the + icon in the Scenes dialog box of the Default Tray, are you using the Create Scene tool in Layers Manager or some other way?

SpectatorHi Brent,
I suspect the problem you are having is one of two issues:
1. You are not using Edit Component to punch the hole through. When CabWriter creates a wall it make it a component. Simply right click on it and choose Edit Component.
2. The wall may be locked. If it appears outlined in red when you select it, it is locked. Select it, then right click on it and the choose Unlock.Joe…..

SpectatorHi,
Your .skp file was not permitted to be attached to this note. Could you zip it up and send it to me at [email protected] ?

SpectatorHmmm! SketchUp shouldn’t be crashing at all, let alone once an hour. When it crashes do you get the bug splat? It would be great if you could begin to recognize a pattern of crashes. Unfortunately, the bug splat doesn’t leave any clues for the user to interpret.

SpectatorHi Michael,
Could you please zip up the SketchUp model file with the two cabinets and send it to me. You can’t attach a .skp file. It must be zipped.
BTW, these shelves are adjustable shelves, not fixed shelves, their placement in the model doesn’t mean anything.

SpectatorAhhhh! Depending on the reason for SketchUp crashing, you may be losing a file called PrivatePreferences.jason which is sort of like the Windows Registry. It holds all the information about your SketchUp setup. How frequently does SketchUp crash and do you have an indication of why, or what you are doing when it happens?

SpectatorHi Michael,
Can you be more specific? What type of upper cabinet? How many shelves? Height of the cabinet. In fact, could you email me a zipped up file of you .skp model file? Send it to [email protected] . I modeled a 30″ tall standard upper with three shelves. See the attached image.
